cowbirds in love

In the first panel, I wanted it to be clear that the guy with the sword had the advantage.  I mean, he had a sword and the other guy had nothing.  Clearly he has the advantage.

But then I decided I wanted the other guy to be more recognizable in case I wanted to use him again, so I gave him a cape.

Suddenly, the guy doesn’t look nearly so disadvantaged.
